9mpg seems low. Maybe the carb is running too rich and you need to break out the timing light (and maybe an HEI distributor?)

All things that could be happening. I’m also driving the crap out of it using full throttle for every on ramp and stop light.

It’s just red oxide primer of some sort. It’s a cool look!

Yeah I put the hood back on it. it was causing weird handling at highway speeds. Lots of lift.

4.xx gears, probably a points ignition, M-21. Seems low but not by that much.

The gears are actually in the 3.08 range oddly enough.

Ah, I thought you had 4's.

Did you take it in for a tune, or am I completely-out-there confused?

youre not cruising around in the power-band.............. it SOUNDED, in one of the videos of the car that i had watched, that the car has a decent sized cam in it........ those cams are very inefficient in the lower rpms

....now most big cams “clean up”at a higher rpm than idle........somewhere around 2400-2800.......... you hear the change....... this is where you get decent power/ mileage out of big cams.............. after it cleans up, but before the secondaries on the carb open up.......... after the secondaries open up it really starts to pour the fuel.........

on a longer trip, if you were trying for mileage, you ought to be able to pull 14, or 15 out of it....... if you dont lead foot it.......

Yeah that all sounds right. It’s pretty lumpy down low.

Kinja'd!!! Die-Trying > cletus44 aka Clayton Seams

Kinja'd!!!1

if you can keep it between 2800 and say 3500(where the secondaries just start opening anyways) you should get “okay” mileage......
